Preserve and Protect
World Heritage sites, both manmade and natural, have withstood the test of time for hundreds or even thousands of years. Yet some face imminent threats, including 30 sites that the UNESCO World Heritage Committee has inscribed on its “In Danger” list. These sites are deteriorating, and face destruction, due to external factors ranging from armed conflict to climate change.
You can help stop this from happening.
What makes a World Heritage site “In Danger”? Threats to World Heritage sites can come from climate change, tourism, conflict, natural disasters, and over-development.
How do affected sites make the list? There are currently 30 World Heritage sites that require special protection and assistance. This designation can be requested by the country in which the site is located, or by an interested party.
